Fiance' is in iraq, his car insurance and tax runs out in a few months..?

can i get the car taxed and insured again myself, or does it have to be him? even though the car isnt being used and is sitting in the car park of my flat? can that be classed as SORN or does it have to be in a driveway?

If the car is off road then it is SORN and driving it for an MOT is permitted even though untaxed provided that you have a booked MOT appointment in writing at the time. To declare the vehicle SORN you will have to be the registered keeper so tell the DVLA about the fiance's tour - they should be helpful.

Specialist motor insurance brokers can find you a third party and theft (TPT) policy and these are really cheap.

If *you* get insurance then *you* can get it taxed for him.

If it is a private car-park then declare it SORN.

i do not know 'scorn' but if it is not insured - when stole he will lose . if not tag registerd it will be towed and agin he will lose.
LOTS of money.
take ur check book and pay to fees for him.
nobody cares who u r at registery or insurance, just is the money good.

Contact the DVLA and his insurance company so you can be advised of the correct procedure. If the car is not parked on the public highway it should be declared as such to the DVLA so that you do not pay road tax. Best to keep it insured in case any damage occurs

If it's not on a public highway (thus on private ground) then you may declare a SORN otherwise it must be taxed and anyone may pay the tax as long as they have the insurance cert and MOT (if applicable).
Unless the car is inaccessible to the public you should speak to the insurance company about insuring the vehicle against theft and damage by vandalism or attempted theft but I would advise you get someone to immobilise the vehicle anyway.
