Do I still have insurance?

my father passed away in september and my little brother and I were on the insurance. Will we still be covered. i just had my wisdom teeth pulled out yesterday and I hope I'm covered. Im still 16 so it would make sense to still have it.

Was the insurance through your father's employer?

If so, then you may not have insurance. Unless someone has paid a premium for you to stay on COBRA.

There are some circumstances where an employer will extend benefits for a certain period of time for a deceased employee. (For example, if a union contract says that they will cover the family for a year after death, etc.) The only way you can know for sure whether that applies to you is to have someone contact your father's employer.

Also, I'm sorry for your loss.

Who has the insurance cards?

Did he have dental insurance? Health insurance wouldn't cover it anyway.

And whoever took you to the dentist, would be the one responsible for paying.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

You will need to contact his employer or his insurance company to find out. If coverage was through your employer, chances are that coverage was cancelled as of the date that he passed or at the end of the month that he passed. But that would make you and your little brother eligible to continue your healthcare coverage through COBRA. Just contact the employer to find out.

If the coverage was not through his employer, you will need to contact the insurance carrier to find out if he maybe pre-paid for coverage through the end of the year.

I am so sorry for your loss. Stay strong for yourself and for your little brother. I hope you have a supportive mom or guardian to help you with these types of issues, because this is a lot of a 16 year old. Talk to your guardian, or just keep on posting.
