Are there any well known and reliable insurance companies in Florida that provide homeowner's insurance?

Seems that every insurance company is leaving Florida.

I suggest speaking with an insurance broker familiar with Florida. A broker works with several companies and can find the best rates and coverage for you. To find a broker, log on to a website like http://www.homeownerswiz.com and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your information will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you. Good luck!

No, there aren't.

There are a few, undercapitalized, unrated companies that have been in business less than a year, starting up in Florida. I wouldn't recommend them.

Then, there's Citizens - the state plan. That's likely where you'll have to get your insurance. Yes, all the other companies are leaving Florida, or trying to. And the premiums are spiraling upwards.

The overall insurance climate in Florida sure makes me GLAD that I live in Texas!!

What you need to do is call a LOCAL independent insurance agent. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you should be able to find a professional agent that will have several different companies to help you solve your dilemma.

It's important to have someone local because he understands the particular needs of your area. A great example of this is my own sister-in-law. My agency is inland, and we are about 300 miles from the coast and coastal exposure (i.e., hurricanes, windstorms.) She bought a house in Houston and called me for homeowners insurance. It's not that I COULDN'T insure her house, I did what's right and referred her to an agent in her LOCAL area because he would be more experienced writing coastal exposure houses and all the little nuances that go along with that exposure, and she's about 50 miles from the coast. The local agent will also know which companies will and those that won't write along the coast....and you guys have TWO coasts to worry about!

Good luck and I hope this helps!
