Why is it that health insurance rates are not based on gender whereas auto insurance rates are?

Au contraire .. females, whether child rearing age or not, are rated higher on individual health insurance policies. Even if maternity is not included as a coverage, the rates are higher.

Females do get cheaper life insurance rates.

Usually after age 30, males & females get the same auto rates. The higher rates are a young single guy thing.

Probably who ever made that up was stuck in stupid! dint you think so?!Cu's I know it does not make much seance to me neither.

Some companies, like United Healthcare and Blue Cross of Utah DO use gender based rates. Some just add the male and female rate together and divide by two (to simplify the concept). It's all in how they decided to rate and the reccomendations that came from thier actuarial dept.

You can get health insurance quotes from different agents in your area by filling out a quote form at http://www.myinsurancequotes.net. Make sure you are getting the best deal because prices vary alot from company to company.

Who said auto insurance rates are based on gender? There may a underwriting question on the auto policy, but basically health insurance for a group is based on group same rates for everyone, and individual underwritten health policy could look at other factors, very much similiar to a auto ploicy.

Gender is generally taken into consideration when writing individual policies. You'll often find that a female of child bearing age pays higher rates than a male of the same age (everything else being equal) for an individual policy.

You wouldn't notice the difference on a group insurance policy through your employer, because you don't see the total premium anyhow. You just see the portion that the employer decides to pass on to you, and the employer kicks in the rest.

Because statistics show that there is a significant difference in auto claims paid, between males and females. And there is NOT a significant difference paid in health claims, between males and females.
