What to do to get Maternity coverage when moving?

My husband was offered another job in another state. We would have to get our own insurance (we currently have our own insurance, BlueCross Blue Shield) and I know in individual plans you have to wait 12 months to get the maternity coverage. I do not want to wait 12 months to try to get pregnant. Does anyone know if there is anything we can do to aviod that 12 month waiting period? Is there another type of maternity coverage we could buy? I have to have a c-section, so just cash flowing the pregnancy and birth is not an option. Please help!

This would be baby #3, the first two were c-sections, this one will have to be one too, and I do have a job taking care of my children full time as a mother. Serious answers only please.

No, you are not going to be able to purchase a policy on your own that wouldn't have a waiting period to cover a pregnancy. (Though some may not have a full 12 months...the standard waiting period for an insurer I used to work for was 270 days. Still a long time, but not a full year either.)

The only way you would potentially get maternity coverage without a waiting period would be through an employer-sponsored group policy that has maternity coverage.

Why do you have to have a C-section? There is no such thing as any doctor stating that you "have to have" a c-section before you even get pregnant...if some quack told you that...that's hogwash.

Have you considered something really crazy like, GETTING A JOB...that is usually the easiest way to get health insurance.

Pregnancy isn't a disability and it doesn't keep you from working.

In most states and with most policies complications of pregnancy are covered from day one whether you have maternity coverage or not. The maternity coverage only covers prenatal care and normal delivery. Waiting periods can vary among policies and can be as low as 9 months. You'll need to shop around to find the best plan for you.

There is no separate policy to avoid the waiting period. This is because only people who want to get pregnant immediately would purchase it and it would be very expensive.

You will need to get a policy before getting pregnant because the insurance company will decline to accept you afterwards.

Maternity coverage with individual plans are more of a forced pre-payment plan. No insurance company is going to pay out more for a delivery than they take in which is why they have those waiting periods. Also the premium with maternity coverage is much higher than plans without.

Ok, I don't know of ANY individual plans that OFFER maternity - not even after a 12 month waiting period. They just flat out don't. There aren't any "maternity" policies, either.

Even with two prior c-sections, that doesn't mean you can't have a regular birth. Lots of women can, you just have to work really hard at finding a doctor that will let you, and have lots of support (check out www.ican.org).

I have two suggestions. 1. Go to the state website, see if his income will be low enough to qualify for the state children's health insurance plan. Most states will cover pregnant women, for just prenatal/birth costs, IF your income is low enough. or 2. he needs to stick out the current job for another year, for you to have this third baby.
