What is the oldest building in indianapolis, in?

If you really want the _right_ answer, one quick phone call to these people will give it to you. I'm sure they get asked the same question all the time.

BTW, it is definitely not the Capital building, which wasn't completed until the 1880's. But call the Historical Society and get the facts.

I believe the oldest standing building in Indianapolis is CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL located at what is now known as 125 Monument Circle. The lot for the church was purchased in 1837, and the cornerstone was laid May 7, 1838, but the church it self wasn't completed until 1859.

Don't bother contacting the Indiana Historical Society or the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana. Neither of them were any help. Neither was the church although they all could verify my information regarding the year the church was built as 1838 (beginning of construction).
