What steps do I need to take to open a women's shelter in my town>?

I reside in Indiana and I want to open a women's shelter. I already have the building, where do I go from here?

I'VE ASKED 3 SHELTERS IN MY TOWN...NO ONE WOULD GIVE ME INFORMATION...HELP...NEED ANSWERS LIKE YESTERDAY!!!!

You need to find out if the city or county has authority over your property.

Go to the building department and ask for a permit application and ask planning department about zoning for your property. The planning department should be able to tell you the possible uses of your building.

Contact advocacy groups and local government agencies involved in women's issues. First, ask yourself if there is a need for duplication of the same thing that is already funded and up and running. Maybe your building has another future if you would simply be competing for the same clientele and funding that others already have secured. What is your motivation?
