My friend is on disablity in indiana, does anyone know where i can get her a cheap computre?

$299 full system at walmart. Runs on windows vista.

you could get one from gateway.com or try bidding on the internet. the only thing you really pay a lot for is the hard drive. The rest of the stuff you can get at a thrift store (mouse, keyboard, monitor). Check the local papers too. Sometimes people place ads to sell them. Oh, try classifieds.com too. they might have some cheap ones.

there is a place you could try that has a sign in the window it is a computer repair shop they advertise computers a low as $99 it is on the corner of ridge and grant in gary across from the Cave. i don't know of anybody who has bought one from there but is doesn't hurt to try for that price.

If your friend does not need the latest and greatest, you can get cheap working computers at thrift stores. People who upgrade donate their computers to places like the Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries. You probably won't get a flat screen monitor, and you will not find the latest Vista or MacOS operating systems pre-installed, but if all your friend needs to do is basic e-mail, Web surfing, and word processing, they will do the job. And the price will definitely be right.

Of course, the stock in these stores changes every day, as things are bought and new items come in, so it pays to check back if you don't find what you want right away.

BTW, I recommend that you *avoid* the Wal-Mart $299 computer. The earlier answer was incorrect: Wal-Mart's cheap computer runs on Linux, not Windows Vista. There is nothing wrong with Linux for people who know what they are doing, but it is much harder to get help for it if something goes wrong. Besides, I've seen used computers in good working order for under $50 at the thrift stores.
