Press Release
The economic development effort that is bringing a $359 million investment and nearly 300 jobs to Anderson from Nestl茅 USA was realized through a coordinated effort between the city of Anderson, the Anderson/Madison County Corporation for Economic Development (CED) and the State of Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC).
Anderson Mayor Kevin S. Smith said a 鈥渂lind鈥?lead came more than a year ago to CED from IEDC with the code name 鈥淧roject Echo鈥? Representatives of Nestl茅 were searching for sites that would best suit their client. When 190 acres adjacent to the Flagship Enterprise Center at I-69 Exit 22 were identified, CED acted to acquire options on the necessary property.
The city of Anderson鈥檚 ownership of its power, water and sewer utilities, plus a fiber optic network, allowed it great flexibility in compiling its incentive package. 鈥淢ultiple city administrators worked countless hours to compile the city鈥檚 incentive package,鈥?said Mayor Smith.
As to the local CED鈥檚 role, Executive Director Mary Starkey said, 鈥淭he Nestle project fits ideally within the mission of the Corporation for Economic Development: to plan and undertake activities leading to steady job growth, increasing economic diversity, and a strengthened employer base which enhance the quality of life of Madison County,鈥?
She continued: 鈥淭he selection of Anderson for Nestle鈥檚 new facility showcases the advantages of an Anderson location in terms of transportation networks, quality workforce, and ability of local and regional partners, both public and private, to provide the service and amenities to attract of the world鈥檚 premier companies.鈥?br>
Mayor Smith believes that today鈥檚 announcement signals a diverse new economy for Anderson that was achieved through a great economic development partnership between the State of Indiana, the Anderson/Madison County Corporation for Economic Development and the entire staff of the city of Anderson.
Groundbreaking for the 880,000 sq. ft. Nestl茅 factory and distribution center is expected in August. The company has said that anticipated opening is spring of 2008. They expect to begin accepting applications for employment in 2007.

ANDERSON, Ind. (July 10, 2006)鈥?Nestl茅 today announced plans to build a $359 million, 880,000 sq. ft. facility in Anderson, an investment that will initially create approximately 300 new jobs. The state of Indiana through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and the city of Anderson recently finalized negotiations with the company to locate the new combined production and distribution facility at a 190-acre site in Anderson.
鈥淣estl茅鈥檚 decision to invest in Indiana is another example of growing confidence in our economy and adds to our string of new jobs announcements. Anderson officials are working hard to successfully participate in our economic comeback,鈥?said Governor Mitch Daniels.
The Nestl茅 facility will produce NESTL脡 NESQUIK Ready-to-Drink and NESTL脡 COFFEE-MATE Liquid products. Construction will begin later this year, with an anticipated opening in the spring of 2008.
"While we considered several potential locations for our new facility, Anderson, Ind., was an obvious choice for Nestl茅," said Rob Case, President, Beverage Division, Nestl茅 USA. "From the very beginning of our discussions with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, it was evident to us that Indiana is a very business-friendly state. Its central location and established transportation infrastructure will be great assets for our distribution center. Also, we were pleased with Indiana's talented and diverse workforce."
The IEDC and the city of Anderson worked together to provide an incentive package that will assist the company. The IEDC-offered incentives include up to $250,000 in training grants, up to $550,000 in infrastructure assistance to the local community and approximately $7 million in tax credits based on job creation and capital investment. The city will provide incentives in the form of tax abatements and infrastructure assistance.
