For a saving of Rs. 1 Lac u/s 80c, you may save a max. of 30 odd % as per your slab.. it comes to about 30900.

But the plans i design from LIC can save you upto 70% income tax !! Yes it is possible.

Maximum is Rs 1,00,000 under 80C and additionally you may
