What is surcharge..? when it is charged..?

It is additional tax for special purpose like infrastructure, education et.

First calculate your Income tax. On the tax amount, calculate the surcharge of given percentage & add in income tax & pay the sum.

Hi there,
"Surcharge" means :

an extra fee added onto another fee or charge
an overprint that affects the value of a postage stamp
a surcharge (sanction) against a public servant who has abused public funds
any loading from above the soil line upon earth being supported by a retaining wall .

It can be charged anywhere, as per the rules of the state or the country.

A surcharge is a charge for service. Only place I ever ran across it was in the Commissary in the service but they have it in some clubs.

Surcharge is charges charged in addition to the original charges.

Surcharge is nothing but another tax in indirect way. Now in Indian Income Tax we are having two taxes like that.

1. 10% Surcharge on Income Tax on the individuals whos taxable income exceeds Rs.10,00,000 per year.

2. Education cess @ 3% on tax.

surcharge is an additional rate of tax which will be payable if the net income of an assessee increases certain limit

SURCHARGE ON INCOMETAX

In the case of every Individual, Hindu undivided family, Association of person and body of individuals, Surcharge on income-tax is calculated @10% if the total taxable income exceeds Rs.10,00,000.
