Hi, we are working couple, both in same company, both in 30% tax slab. Can we both claim HRA?

Please share more tax saving tips for working couples

Also, can one claim HRA in case he owns house in some other state?

Legally u cannot do it..
but usually people i mean couples working in different companies claim it
u can claim it...taking the rent paid receipts..

Hi,

Yes both of you can claim deduction provided you submit rent paying document individually.
If you are staying in your own house then you can not calim HRA.
However, for tax planning you can show rent in your spouse hand provided house is in name of your spouse.

Bye

as per income tax act there is no bar to claim hra by both husband & wife .but it is not beneficial for both of you to show rent 50 -50 as by doing this your rent paid and rent received calculation will be less and exemption will be reduced.if you are living in separate houses than you bath can easily claim hra.but if you are leaving in one house than you should show that you have paid rent form such & such month & ur wife has paid the rest of month.
moreover you can claim hra even you have a house in some other state or even in same state or city if you are actually paying the rent than there is no bar to claim the hra exemption,
