Your PAN card details can be known if you can correctly answer like your name, your fathers name and your date of birth. If you have all the details correctly, then open the below web link (by clicking on the link), It will tell you your pan number. This way you can cross check your PAN number as well as details.

NSDL and UTIISL are the authorized for PAN card issue. I have obtained my duplicate card just by filling the form 49A with the required amount (Rs.65+). You have to fulfill all the formalities like you apply for a new card. But you need to fill the form with exact name, fathers name and date of birth like before. If any of them mismatch, again they will refer the same to you and by this way the card issue will be delayed. If you have any dought, then ask the NSDL or UTIISL officials for details for your PAN card, and then fill all the details in the form.

There are many people dealing in PAN card. You can trace them through the below web link.

What is a PAN card?

You need not go to IT department. Go to any Chartered Accountant or UTI facilitation centers or NSDL centers who are authorized to accept application for PAN cards. You have to get the application for the issue of duplicate PAN card. That is different from the normal application for the issue of new pan card. Now a days IT Dept has de-linked itself from the issue of PAN card. They just allot the numbers and NSDL/UTIISL will prepare the PAN cards. You have to pay less than Rs 100/- for all this work. That's enough.
