My air conditioning has problems every month! My repairperson kept changing stuff! Is it a scam?

My AC has been broken 5 times in the past 3 months. Every time we call the AC repair company, they would send a technician. And the technician would tell me that there is something broken and needs to be replaced. I have already replaced two brand new zone controls, two thermos, and now a month later, my AC is broken again. The zone controls and thermostats cost me $1000 already. This time, he said that he needs to change the whole unit, which will cost me around $9000. Is this some kind of scam? My AC units are 5 years old. He said they are too old, and need to be replaced definitely. How come he didn't tell me this a month earlier? Should I tell another AC company to check it out? It's just too much money for changing my units. But my family can't live without it too...

I am curios. how big is this air conditioning unit? because this just does not sound right to me.

he said, that he had to replace the whole unit? the main part of an air conditioning unit is the compressor. witch will cost more than all the other parts together. but I do not understand how all of the other parts could also go out, at the same time? that just does not sound right. do you know what the odds are for something like that to happen?

I just cannot see how something like that would ever happen.
did he say what has went out? and how old the unit was? there is a lot of things like that, someone would need to know before they can give a correct answer to this.

I agree with you. he should have told you this right at the start.
but I can tell you everything sounds odd.
replacing these part you mentioned. these kind of parts are made to last years. and replacing two of each of these parts?

unless he is selling you second hand parts as new parts. or this has, got to be some kind of scam. but either way, you need to put a stop to him. if not he will also, do the same to other people.

Please keep all the information that shows you have paid for these parts. then call another AC company and find out for sure what is wrong. explain to them what has happen.

Then see what they have to say. if you find it to be some kind of scam. File a complaint at the court house. you should be able to get your money back.

I"ve never used them but I looked them up on BBB and they have had 4 issues, all of which were resolved! They can't tell you what they were about though. http://www.data.bbb.org/houston2.asp

I would get a second opinion just to be sure... do a lot of research on what ever company you are going to use this time! Check out their Yahoo local ratings... look them up at BBB... It can't hurt and it's always a good idea to shop around for better prices! Don't tell the other company that this guy said you need a new one... they might say the same thing just to get your money! Act like it's a new issue.

DO you have a recipt, tell them they have to offer a warraty on their jobs, the like CeCe said call another AC company to get a second opinion, then depending on what the new co. says sue the last co. for the last job..
