What's a job called when you take a newborn baby to a nursey (besides pediatrians)?

I'm in high school (freshmen) and my teachers are always telling us that we need to plan ahead and start looking for the jobs that we want. But i'm trying to find a specific job that deals with little kids or babies, only need 2 years of college and thats it to get the job, not a pediatrician, and makes good amount of money. So do any one know whats the name of a job that takes the just now born baby to the nursey room (not pediatrician)? Also can any one give me a list of other jobs that match the description that i gave earlier. And good website. One more thing, is there a such thing as a pediatrian assistant? I dont want to be a full pediatrian because it takes about 11 to 12 years of school (college) to be one.

the nurse that performs the first check on a newborn is a neonatal nurse. they are generally RNs that have experience with newborns. The job of a neonatal nurse is HIGHLY important. You will have to go to school for at least 4 years to obtain that position. I am sure you would have to follow that up with working your way up in the medical career field. Such as, working on the postpartum wing first.
However, their may be jobs at yoru local hospital that are for CNAs or PCT. These are people who go to school from anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to become one. Your responsibilities would include bathing the mother, getting equipment pulled out for the doc and nurses, adn general caregiver needs. You probably will not be allowed to handle the newborns.
Some hospitals will allow LPN/LVN to work in the maternity ward. But, again, workign with newborns will probably not be allowed. However, the LPN only goes to college for approximately 2 years. With your LPN you can work at a Pediatricians office. You won't be working with BRAND NEW babies, but, you will be working with small children.

Labor and delivey nurse, nursing school is a 2 year school.
