Are Bank workers in care homes used as cheap labour at a one scale hourly wage?

As I work in a care home I was shocked in a new contract that only pays 拢5.70 a hour regardless if you work nights Sundays or bank holidays. Do any other bank care workers also feel they they are victims of the lowest paid people in the care industry.

I think all care home staff is very badly paid. It isn't a job that I would like and I honestly believe that we should pay at least 拢10 and hour to get the best staff we can to look after our elderly. These care home owners seem to have plenty of money and when you see how much some of the local authority office workers get in comparison with care workers the difference is inexcusable. I feel very strongly about these jobs although I have never done this type of work but these hard workers are the ones that are going to lose out with the loss of the 10p tax rate. I do say again that we need to get GOOD CARING staff to carryout this work and pay them accordingly.

I sometimes do bank work for extra cash but I'm a qualified nurse and would never work for that amount.

That seems wrong to me, i do bank work as a qualified nurse and earn less per hour than my contracted hours, but i get night and weekend enhancements. Can nursing homes set their own rules? if so better off to go on the bank at a hospital and get paid more. Wiping bums is the same wherever, get the best rate you can.

It would not surprise me. Care workers are treated outrageously and are so badly paid that most of the time. You notice there is never a poor care home manager or owner though!
