Is there a nursing field that has the same focus as paramedics?

i know that nurses can't be nurse paramedics. it's two separate things, requiring two separate certifications. i would have to pick up being a paramedic as a separate/part time job. i am in nursing school for my BSN but i have deep down always loved everything about being a paramedic, it's just not the same as in an ER. so anyways, i know that sometimes nurses are employed in similar fields, but i know nothing about them. anyone have a clue?

okay so i found flight/transport nursing. where nurses care for patients while they are being transported to a hospital. does anyone know anything about this? what is it like? how hard to get a job in that field?

Flight nursing is a very hard field to get into and almost NEVER take a fresh grad. More than likely you're going to have to do 1-2 years doing either med-surg or the ER or ICU before you could get into being a flight nurse. Even one year of experience would be good no matter what you went into. It's also very possible to continue to be a nurse AND a paramedic. I know several nurses who went on to be paramedics and while they don't get paid quite as much as hospital nurses, they do it for their love of the job and not the money.

Flight nursing is exactly what you want. It might be a rather limited specialty in terms of job availability because in most metropolitan areas there are probably only a couple of companies that hire flight nurses. Yes, you would function just like an EMT for the most part. You'd be wise to get some critical care experience - ICU, CCU, etc.

If you are wanting to get your paramedic after nursing school you are looking at another two years or so of sitting in class.
