Is 24 years old too late to start nursing program? |
I have been working in a totally different feild for the last 6 years. I am a special FX makeup artist for film and t.v. Recently, my father passed away from complications after open heart surgery and I was by his side every step of the way. I have secretly wanted to work in the medical industry all my life and now I am really serious about taking on a nursing program. My reasons aren't for money, although it is nice, they aren't for recognition, although i'm sure its great too. Honestly, Its to give back and help people who need it the most. I am 24, and have been an "artist" my whole life...so math and science really are not my strong points. I don't even think I have grade 12 math or science as I went right into Art College. --- But my heart is in it. Am I too OLD? Is the program like really hard? For someone like me who will for sure need math tutors...like statists and chemistry...I shutter at the thought. I can tell you from experience, if your heart is in it, your brain will be too. Science was never my strong point. I struggled with science all my life. I decided at 28 to go back to school to pursue nursing. Because I wanted it so badly, I put my mind to it and have really been proud to see I can do it! You can too. It does get difficult at times and does require alot of studying but the rewards you get from succeeding are what makes me keep going. I've gained so much confidence in myself and now I feel like I can do anything and it makes me strive to continue to try to new things! 24 is definitely not to old. Many people work first or go into the military before going to college. at 24, you are probably a lot more mature than you were at 18 and will probably do much better in college now. Honey, you are never to old to learn. I was in my early 30's when I went to Nursing School and a friend that was in the class above me was 66 and just graduating as an LPN. You are never to old to start doing any thing. Go for it.There are reports of people in there 80's going to collage. Go, go ,go girl. All the power to you.You know If you don not, years from now you will be asking youself, Damned, why did I not do it then. Save you self the drama, do it now. definitely not too late... i have seen some ladies in their 50's and 60's start nursing programs JUST DO IT!! I did it in my mid thirties and there were people in my class who were older than me. |
