You need at least an associates degree in nursing which you can get from many community colleges. You can also look at other colleges and universities around where you live. They often offer bachelors in nursing degrees which take a little longer to get. At a community college you could reasonably get your degree in 3 years. You could also take classes to be certified to be an LPN: licensed practical nurse and that only takes about 18 months to complete. At the end of all of them you have to take a certification exam before you can start working.

In Canada (Ontario) a, Registered Nurse needs to get a BSc Nursing Degree that is 4 yrs long at University or a community college (collaborative Program) . A, Registered Practice Nursing is a 2 yr diploma community college.
