Hospital nurses - what unit do you work on? what do you like/dislike about it? |
Also...if you start off working let's say in adult ICU...can you easily change your position later and do something different? Like say NICU or med/surg? Or do most hospital jobs want nurses who already had experience in that area? I鈥檓 not a nurse but I worked as a unit secretary so I have worked with a few nurses. One thing that they liked about working in critical care is that if they needed to pick up hours they could work any unit. Like our nurses can be floated to any floor in the hospital (med surg, pcu, peds etc.) but those nurses cant float up because critical care requires more training. Also they like the fact that they only have two patients. It may sound easy but a real critical patient can keep you real busy....especially CRRT patients....they are one to one. I am only a nursing assistant, but I can tell you that if you work in telemetry/cardiac care you are going to be overworked and stressed out a lot. The nurses are mostly looking forward to transferring to another unit. But if you have to put in your time, it doesn't matter where you go. At hard times, just remember that you are using it as a stepping stone to get where you want to be. Good Luck! |
