Working as a midwife?

I think I'd really like to work as a midwife, but I think that being on-call 24/7 would cause strain on my personal life.. is there any way I can deliver babies not on-call??

Are you talking like a certified nurse midwife, or a lay midwife? As a certified nurse midwife, you are usually working out of a clinic with other midwives and physicians and you would never be expected to be on 24/7 call EVER. Call shifts are scheduled occassionally, but nothing you can't live with.

Good luck!

Mostly I understand that midwives only take on a couple of women at a time so they can focus more on them instead of being widespread. Plus you will only spend lots of time there will in labor. Just don't plan any vacations around the due date. You can pick who you want to work with so if it is someone due around Christmas and you would rather focus that time on family then refuse to help.
