Any LPN'S out there? |
I'm starting school in january to become an LPN (in georgia) and everyone is telling me that i'm making a mistake and i know i shouldnt listen to others....its something i really wanna do and i'm thinking about bridging to RN one day. but im not sure yet. WHAT SHOULD I DO?? Any LPNS out there let me know how you like the career PLEASE you go for it. I am going for LPN also and like you I have people telling me its a waste of time.I feel like I need to take this in steps I started off a CNA and now I am a PCT next LPN and maybe RN I am not sure.Good Luck n whatever you choose remember is what makes you happy.I think that is why we have so any unhappy nurses in the field because they fulfilled someone Else's expectation and not their own. For women in the past Nursing was one of the top careers. Go for it, after all you will ALWAYS have a job. I hav been an LPN for 3 yrs. its a good field cause you can be OK working part time while you go to sch. for your RN. you can work at different fields and just stick with the one you like the most. its always different experiences daily its fun but draining you sometime get a work load from RNs and MDs which could be crappy at the same time you could also be in charge of nursing assistance etc. which could also be crappy cause the hate to take orders. but overall its a good field but you have to be strong mentally and physically to deal with people good luck I have worked in hospitals' nursing administration and later went to nursing school to complete the equivalent of LPN training (in Texas, we are Licensed Vocation Nurses -- LVNs). I have been licensed for 17 years, but have over 30 years' experience working with nurses. Working as an LPN is perfect if you prefer hands-on patient contact, rather than the responsibility of managing co-workers and the reams of paperwork that are required of RNs. The pay is less, but it's a trade-off. However, LPN training / licensure are the perfect lead-in for bridging to RN. In my decades of experience in the medical field, the best RNs I have known are those who came up through the ranks. Many started as CNAs; moved up to LPN; completed an ADN or BSN program for RNs; some have progressed to obtain credentials that require a master's degree (CRNA, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's Assistants); and a few have completed medical school and become MDs or DOs. In my opinion, you get a far more thorough education in nursing by taking your education a step at a time. Too, if you complete LPN training, you can work part-time at LPN wages while in RN school, rather than having to take a minimum wage position. I wish you well in your professional growth! |
