I,an Indian tax resident, worked in Germany for 177 days (07.08.2007 to 31.01.2008), would I have to pay tax?

I came to germany to work as visiting scientist in a German technical university. Tough I landed in Germany on 2 nd August, 2007 my contarct started with the University from 7th August and I received salay up to 31 january, 2008. I will be going back to India on 29th January, 2008. I paid more than 3000 euro for my income tax. I want to know whether I can get back my tax? Can really somebody help me?

if you live in a country you must pay the tax. It pays for the society. If you are owed tax for some reason you talk to an accountant.
