Have you ever been a FRUSTRATED WAITRESS?

I work at a restaurant...

and I'm really starting to realize that management and the owner don't give a **** about the employee's...

don't they care that people will quit?

don't they care that if their decisions make us bitter , it will effect their sales?

The owner was a waiter and bartender in the past..yet all the decisions the owner makes effect us mostly in a negative way

I'm so frustrated....

I guess I could look for a new job..

but how do I play the game so that I win????

f you're 'good' for the love of god move into sales. Waitressesing is not a good job it is rightfully not respected and neither is the type of person it attracts.

Find an entry level customer service position or sales position with a financial services (bank) or insurance company. The benefits will be good and there will be room to move up into better roles.

If you're a college student do it for a while until you can get one of the listed jobs above. Become a receptionist, a secretary if you're a hot enough chick to be waitressing there are lots of other opportunities around for you that might lead to something good.

As a cook for small family owned restaurant(s), i have found that not many owners really care for their service staff. The thinking seems to be that they always have many people wanting a job, so they can afford to let people go and hire new people at lesser salary. Food service can be fun if you can find a decent restaurant, but that can be hard since the good places to work do not lose many employees.

Speaking as a former waiter who was in this position both as a server and as a manager, no, they don't care if people quit. Waitstaff is one of the easiest positions for a company to fill, and cheap to boot. They will always find ways to bolster their sales, regardless of the bitterness of the employees.

Just because the person used to be waitstaff doesn't mean they'll be a good owner. It takes a whole different view on life to pull ownership off.

My suggestion, when you go to look at a new place to schlep tables, talk with the staff (waitstaff, barstaff, host(ess) staff). Find out the digs from them. See if it really is something you can handle.

If all else fails, get out of the industry and look at entry level sales positions, not a bad transition!

Hope this helps!

I was a waitress for years, I understand your frustration! Here are my thoughts.

In business, as well as life, there is really only one thing you have total control over...yourself! In almost every job you take, you will be running into situations where you'll need to vocalize some of your concerns.

You need to be willing to have constructive conversations with owners and/or management. Not only to express your concerns/position but more importantly to offer some form of reasonable solution.

This will show them that you're not just there to complain but to help them create a stronger business which benefits both of you. This should also (with most reasonable people) dampen any feelings of defensiveness.

If after your conversation some changes aren't made and you are still unhappy.....you'll have said your peace and now you have some decisions to make!

I've worked in the rest. business for a long time and youre so right they dont care about you and just a little piece of advice, no matter what rest you work at it never gets any better it is just the nature of the beast.
