What self respecting adult over the age of 25 would work at McDonald's as a cashier?

I dumped my last boyfriend because he worked at McDonald's as a cashier. God I was so embarrassed to step foot where he worked at. Yea I know he was going to school full-time, but its still unacceptable.

for most people fast-food is not a career it is a job.
there is no disrespect in being employed, fast-food is designed for teens, young adults and retirees to work part-time and have a flexible schedule.
a first job is to learn job-skills, work-ethic and to make a little money, pay for your first car or save for college. the problem is over the last decade adults have been forced to take these kinds of jobs to support their families. service sector jobs are the only jobs that have been created as our industrial base continues to whither away. these jobs were never meant to be high paying and provide benefits that is not how the industry was built and now it is looked down upon because it is the only industry that is producing employment and people expect that these service sector companies should suddenly offer full-time high paid jobs with great benefits.

you show how petty you are by stateing how unaceptable working in fast-food is.
you know how easy it is because you've never done it.
those who have never worked in fast-food always know how easy it is. they are the first ones to tell you how easy it is and how only those that sre stupid do it.
over half of the CEOs of the Fortune 500 companies worked in food service as teens and young adults over 35% worked for McDonald's. many have been asked what they thought of the experience how it prepared them for their careers they all say the same thing it made them better employees and taught them to work hard and to apply what they were taught.

you know what a person that needs a job and needs money to me that is great to at least start tdoing something thatisbetter then not working and being a bum

The way the economy is right now... having any job is a good thing...

Especially being a full time student... don't be so hard on him... Sounds like he was a hard working guy!!

a person who needs money and depends on that money to live and pay rent... you are too judgemental and my guess is you didn't really love him if you broke up with him for that. He is trying to get through school, school is expensive would you rather he not work?

Yeah! Damn him for doing the best he could to support himself through school! Do you know what would be even worse? Someone working in a place like that because it was the only job they could get to provide for their family! Or *gasp* someone who enjoys working in that kind of environment and doesn't care about the opinions of ignorant, self righteous, shallow little people. You go girl!

Maybe you should evalute your life, a man trying to make an honest living in a time of economic sturggle and you punish him for it? McD is one of the most stable companies in the world, maybe he is making connections at corporate and after his degree can get a 9-5, what makes you so great that you can judge a person's life on the willingness to make an honest dollar. Let me guess you are in HR or a hiar stylist?

Honest work is better than being a welfare bum. I think you are being rather superficial.

Someone who is not looking for handouts. Someone who is willing to do what it takes to better themselves. Someone who knows what they have to do to get by. Someone who is willing to put food on the table. Someone who knows that the economy and job market is crap right now (thanks bush). Someone who is working hard while putting themselves through school and knows its not a dream job. Someone who is better off without a superficial girlfriend.

A job is a job, and in this day and age, sometimes you have to take what you can get! I'm a 30 year old college graduate, and I work two jobs! One is a full-time special ed aide position, and the other is a part-time retail job. Today's economy is very difficult, and sometimes a person has to work at one or more jobs that aren't exactly glamorous! Don't be so judgmental!

You know a friend has her Ph.D and works as manager in McDonalds before no one will hire her in this weak job market

so someone who is working as a cashier at McDonalds, Burger King or any other fast food place in this rough and hard economy should be praised. work is work and he is earning a living.

I bet you would assume digging holes is an unacceptable job too. You should be embarrassed at your simple minded thinking

well first, whats he going to school for?
i mean, i know when im through with school ill be making tons of money, and id rather focus on school then a stressful job, so mcdonalds may be just his way of not stressing out before school. i mean mcdonalds may not be his money maker now and it seems like hes not getting anywhere...but its not like hes working himself to management there or something...its all temporary.

That's pretty superficial of you. He's in school, as you yourself pointed out. What's better, having the integrity and humility to study and work so a better job can be attained in the future, or being too arrogant to work at a McDonald's? I mean, I hate the place, but I applaud him.

Which isn't to say you should get back with him, of course. He's better off without a shallow girlfriend. Hopefully his next one will be educated and open-minded.

Please tell me what is wrong with that? I would admire this guy who studies full time and work, even though it is not by your definition, prestigious job. It is much better than being dependent on welfare or a bum.

There is a saying that there is dignity in work. I am sorry but you are a very, very shallow person.

Better than collecting welfare and living off my taxes.
The only thing unacceptable here is how shallow you are.

Let me understand this. You dumped him because he worked at McD's.....
Where was he working when you met him for the very 1st time? The first time you said hello? Where did he work when he got your digits?? or did he seek you out??
oh it doesn't matter...
Either way you liked him enough right? so then you decided to date him (after you met him)- just long enough to get the title of "boyfriend". {you need the status of a boyfriend in order to Dump so you're in the "right"}--
Now I think I'm getting it-
So basically you're saying he was OK at some point, but then when he started working at McD's he wasn't OK anymore.

Good girl!!

Did you tell him to get his butt over to KFC? at least there are flat screens at KFC-plus KFC is owned by YUM Brands so they sort of have an edge in the fast-food world. Right?
I mean 5 brands are better than 1. So your ex-bf's chances would increase 5 to 1 if he left McD and went over to YUM.
What was he thinking staying at McD's- when you wanted him to advance his career quicker?
Back to the real issue, sorry, I got side-tracked.

You don't fool me. You like the Big Dawgs who are higher up on the "food chain"- no pun intended.
What if your Ex-bf was a Manager and buying you Coach bags--would it be OK then?
Observing your name, I think you did the right thing by dumping the guy.
I'm gonna call him. I love Hot fudge sundae's with nuts.

I can't believe that you would be embarrassed by him having a REAL job while he is furthering his education. At least he isn't selling drugs or doing other illicit things to put some cash in his pocket. As a manager in a fast food restaurant I am appalled by your attitude towards his vocation. As you get older and hopefully a little more mature you will realize that a lot of self respecting adults choose to work in certain places to provide their families with some sort of security.

you known a job is a job some people cant even get a good job and work at walmart or mcdonalds money is not everything haveing a place over your head and food is all you need and to love one another i see so many people break up over money my friend left his wife cause she could not accept what he could give her and you know what his little girl was so hurt cause daddy left they lived in a mobile home and she wanted a house he is barely working cause of michigans economy so at least he had a job but she could not accept that so they both got hurt money is not worth giving somone up im poor and i have a nice family so please reconsider next time and make sure he treats you right.

Good thing he dumped you because you are a self centered elitist.

You have all the qualities of an obnoxious snob.

I hate to say it, but it is unacceptable unless you are mentally challenged or if it's the best job you are ever going to get.

I won't even go in a McDonalds unless Im on a road trip and have to use the bathroom.

This will make you feel better:

You are getting a lot of flak on this question, but consider the people you are polling love to give their opinions since they are y!answers. You are also getting a more self-righteous crew as a result. I doubt anyone on here would work at McDonalds.

I honestly can't think of a more dignity robbing job than McDonalds. I can think of crappier, or harder, or grosser jobs, but they all involve a level of skill or a trade. Im going to ask that question...so keep an eye out.

I'd dig holes all day or clean up monkey poo before I'd ever slip on the brass/cloth weave McDonalds belt or put a "M" golf visor on my head.

---

edit: I can't believe the grilling you got on this. Have any of you guys been in a McDonalds lately? Seriously, I think McD's is great to hire mentally challenged, but I kid you not, they are the best employees McDs has!

One time a non-mentally challenged (supposedly...) employee was passing me a cup of water. She'd filled it too full so the lid splashed the water out... (duh) and a drip was running down her arm she licked her arm all the way up to my cup, and thank God, stopped at the cup base!

McD's is the worst, least self-respecting place to work. Walmart is a jillion times more respectable. If you want to work in food, at least get tips! Or Starbucks where you can get health insurance just from being part time.

You are a sucker to work at McDonalds!

Loading dock, grocery store, dry cleaners, landscaper, gas station... anything but McDs!

You made the right move girl! Drop that ghetto-***!
