What's it like being an accountant?

Do you just calculate business financial statements all day?

Do you mean like a cpa or admin/accountant type job? There are different job descriptions even tho you may be an accountant.

I heard that the big 5s are really political so you may not make partner easily.

You should look up job descriptions on the net for some positions, it really depends on what the company is looking for. and one of those positions may be attracting/befitting you for a position.
