There are many houses for sale in Detroit for $35,000. Is it real and where is the catch?

There is no catch, you are getting what you pay for. These homes are foreclosures & could be in decent shape or they might not even have floors. You can buy a house in Detroit for about $5,000 if you want, it won't be habitable but you can buy it. These are definitely fixer uppers, they are not move in condition, they are houses to be flipped for renters. Just make sure you always tour the property before making an offer & ask your agent about the area. You should also use a foreclosure specialist not just some neighborhood agent.

There are plenty, You need to talk to a real estate agent that you feel comfortable with, The agent will find you listings that you can decide upon.

There are all sorts of HUD houses and foreclosures that would probably go for that cheap - or those that just go for back taxes. But! Safety in neighborhoods can vary street by street - sometimes even house by house - there are some very scary neighborhoods out there - crack houses and abandonned houses are very common. Look for streets with a block club. They are usually safer.

You can get houses for 5-10,000. Alot of neighborhoods are not very safe especially if you have kids. But you can pick up cheap houses.
