Has any 1 ever been took to court for a matter of 拢1000, i owe it to a debt collecter but cant pay it.?

i lost my job nd cant pay them their money, im not a home owner and live with my parents

if the debts been assigned to a debt collection agency then it may well be too late already... the debt agency will be increasing the debt significantly, for every visit, every letter, phone call or what ever.
the best bet is to try to talk to the organisation whcih you originally racked up the debt with and try to agree a payment schedule, failin that try to reach a payment schedule with the collection agency.
leaving it in a drawer just increases the cost.. in some cases dramatically a 拢5..拢100 bill can become 拢1,000+ very very quickly.

a word of caution, tell your parents about this, make them aware that if it does come to the crux and bailiffs come round then the bailiffs can only seize your property, there is no liability on anyone else to settle your debts. some of the sneakier tricks the bailiffs use is to try to blackmail others (often parents) into paying your debts, or claiming that because you live there they can seize any property in the house.. they can't they can only seize property which is legally yours. Your parents may need to prove ownership, especially if its in your room but the Bailiffs cannot touch anythign which is your parents or your siblings

All you got to say is that you can afford to pay 拢10 a week etc if it gets taken to court. It shows your willing to pay something.

Don't let them take you to court. Explain your situation and offer to pay them back in small instalments, they can't refuse a reasonable offer. Failing that get yourself down to the CAB (Citizen's Advice Bureau) for help

If you go to court you will be given a CCJ which is not so bad the court will ask you for a list of your finances and will then decide on a realistic amount to pay back in instalments don t worry mate

Hi, I am quite sure unless its owed to the council or tvlicsence they cant take you to a court of law. Maybe a cliams court or something like that. But they will just ask you to pay a littel a week
If you make an apoitment to see someone at your local citazins advice bureau, they can give you free leagel advice, and help you arrange to pay the debt company like a pound a week.
If the debt company keep pestring you can contact the FSA who regulate this sort of thing.
The wrost that will happen is you will have a bad credit ref for the furture.

Sounds like the typical injustice of the legal system.
I'd check the small print and seek citizens advice first.
A lot would depend on the type of debt collector you employed, though to be honest, if you have no money, offer to pay it back at 拢5 a month. A judge would probably be sympathetic to your case, especially if the agency hadn't recovered your original debt...

I've just succeeded in getting a 拢3000 debt paid to me, and I've been waiting 4 years. My solicitor was told there was no way I could afford the fees unless they delivered.

offer them a 拢1 a week if they refuse the offer which they wont , they will never take you to court as long as you offer something.
if it ever gets to court because you are unemployed the judge will only order 拢5 a month anyway

contrary to the post below mine debt collection agency's dont add nothing to your debt, once the debt as been sold to a debt agency all interest stops you dont have no contract with the agency so they cannot add nothing to your bill only any court costs. it is against the law for debts agencies to charge interest. and talking to the original creditor is no longer possible they have sold the debt on and have no further control in how much you pay at all

Whatever you do don't part with any money and don't let the debt collector bully you. Explain your circumstances and that you want to repay the full amount but over a longer period. If they don't like that go to the county court and ask for help with an administration order. This lets you pay at a set rate and there is the possibility that you will end up not having to pay the full amount or any interest.

Offer a nominal amount each week until you've paid it off. Things sound bad enough for you as it is without having the hassle of having to go to court and have a bad credit rating. If you owe it, you should be honour bound to pay it back. You cant just write it off and they will take you to court. 拢1,000 is better in their pocket than yours is how they will see it. Make a fair offer and I'm sure you can sort it out without legal intervention (and you'll have costs to pay!)

Offer them what you can afford. They will try to tell you , you have to pay more but don't give in. If you pay nothing a county court judgement will be issued against you . It will stay on your credit file for 6 years after it is paid off. On the plus side if it goes to court you will have to give them a rundown of your weekly payments and the chances are you will be allowed to pay off your debt at a small amount.

that fact that you are no longer working means youll most probably be getting benefits for a while so therefore they will have to accept whatever you can afford. Do not try and ignore them though, it will work in your favour to remain in contact. youll find that they will give you more leeway if they can see you are trying.

work out what you can reasonably afford and tell them that is what youll pay and tell them how often. make sure you keep to the payments.

they can take you to court for any money owed no matter the amount. You will find that most comapnies wont take you to court if the debt is less that 拢1000 as its not financially beneficial for them e.g. court costs.
