Should you Charge Double if you Work over Xmas?

I worked on Christmas Eve Day and Boxing Day and did not charge double.

On Boxing Day the clients who made a booking failed to show up.

As I did not take a credit card guarantee, I am stuck. What would you do (have done)???

i charge 拢130.00 per hour on xmas and boxing day, my usualy charge is 拢25.00

Erm definantly Boxing day i would say, but not double necessarily, maybe time and a half....

**** that charge them triple taking away family time

i work for what my wage is..it doesnt go up at Xmas, and theres nothing I can do about it!

I would charge an extra fee for this day to help cover cost.
A nonrefundable deposit would be the way to go for bookings. If they dont like to put there money where there mouth is, then you know they would not have turned up.

Is there any way that you can contact them to find out why they did not turn up. Maybe there is a reasonable explanation, we are all liable to think the worst of people, but give them a chance to redeem themselves. As I said there may be a good reason. Happy New Year

Ordinarily, you can charge double time on bank holidays which includes Boxing Day. Furthermore, you are still entitled to charge your client for Boxing Day as they didn't give you sufficient notice of cancellation (in fact none at all!) You will need to send them a letter asking them for the money owed or you will have to take them to court (small claims is cheap). However, if you didn't quote them double time at the time of booking, then you may not be able to claim that, but you can still claim for both days at the standard rate.

Im sitting at work doing this!
pointless coming in really

It depends on what you do! I assume you are self employed, so pricing is up to you.

The fact its boxing day etc. is largely academic. You should price relative to your costs and market. If there is sufficent demand to pay double on boxing day then fair enough, however, if you end up loosing customers because of excessive fees then it might not be worth it in the long-run.

Incidentally, Christmas Eve is not a bank holiday, so most major companies won't offer employees any extra salary because of it - so people may find it a little gauling to see you demanding more for a normal working day...
