Is instant messaging generally banned in corporate America? |
I've read that for reasons of productivity loss and security concerns that IMing is strictly forbidden in corporate America. Does that depend on the company or is that pretty much the norm across the board? Depends on the company...I work for a national corporation and they require that we use it, but it's exclusively for work purposes. The company can monitor and penalize if it's used improperly. They don't want us to use it for personal use during work hours, because they don't pay us to IM our web pals. I use it at a larger major corporation every day. It's actually the norm especially with employees that deal with personal information. You don't want employees to be able to send out personal information about their clients via IM. |
