Did K-Mart buy out Sears or did Sears buy out K-mart?

K-Mart bought out Sears and their stock is called Sears Holdings. K-Mart kept the Sears for marketing purposes since the name Sears is an old and favorite in the USA.

I believe Sears bought out Kmart.

Sears bought K-Mart, or what was left of it.

Sears bought out K Mart and closed more than half of the stores which K-Mart operated. Kresge was a hugh name in the retail business. It acquired a couple of small chains, then had fancy ideas on becoming a fashion trend chain, began importing misfitted clothing from overseas and blew the whole image. Kathie Smith (?)of Charlie's Angels was the spokeswoman.

Sears bought out K Mart after it emerged from bankruptcy and created Sears Holding Company. IMO you now have a much larger retail nightmare about to happen. It is a struggling company that will have to close more stores in the future before they get things right.
