Suggestions? Chicago Venue for cocktail reception?

I am looking for suggestions for venues in Chicago to host a cocktail reception for about 300 people. This is not a wedding, so not interested in a hotel venue, however, looking more for "the place to be seen" at. Also, anyone know of any great golf courses in Chicago .. again to host a golf event?

My internet searches aren't being very resourceful and being that I'm not from Chicago, I have no clue.

I would offer a couple ideas. One is to contact a couple of catering companies and see if they can suggest some locations. They have worked in and out of a lot of spots and could most likely be helpful. You might also talk with a wedding planner for some suggestions as I would suspect that while they do weddings as their main source of income, they would do other events as well or at least be able to put you in contact with someone who would be helpful.

The Park district of Chicago has (golf course) one on the north side near Warren Park. There is a great one in Oak Lawn which is still in Cook County and and about 103 rd and Central in Oak Lawn or just call the Oak Lawn Country Club & Golf Course. Best of luck

The Newberry Library in Chicago is very elegant. (312)943-9090 60 W Walton St. It can entertain 300 easy in a beautiful room.
