Where to shop in Chicago?

I'm going to Chicago on Saturday with some friends. We'll be stopping at Woodfield Mall, then heading down to Chicago to shop. What are the best places to shop for a tight budget, under $200.

I'm a college guy, so any good stores to buy men's clothes besides the usual department stores?

Is the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) that expensive? Where can I find some of the cheaper stores?

Hmmm.
Woodfield isn't that cheap either.
If you have any money after Woodfield and
head towards downtown Chicago.
Instead of going all the way downtown to shop, get off at Harlem Avenue, turn right [south] go to the HIP...a shopping mall at Harlem and Irving.
Much better prices! Two different malls on both sides of Harlem there. Lots of food choices also...Pizza Hut, Boston Chicken, Cinnabons, etc.

$200??? Um.... maybe you can afford a nice scarf or even a pair of socks, but dont think your going to walk away with an outfit for that much. If you want to be thrifty dont shop on michigan ave!!!! Some of the "cheaper"stores are more boutique style, and those are all over. Further away from the loop. Like on Clark, or in Bucktown.

water tower place

In downtown Chicago, try Filene's Basement on Michigan Avenue (across from Water Tower). There's another location on State Street. Also, there's an H&M. When Macy's and Lord & Taylor have sales and you can find a coupon, you can get some good deals too. A lot of other stores downtown are very expensive, but a few are reasonable.

Be picky and plan out what you need to have. Know what you want, what looks best on you, only buy classic pieces, and don't buy anything that won't last.

Get the good stuff and start building your wardrobe for the job you want to get and the life you want after college. $200 *is* something... you really might be able to get a decent lightweight suit for that that will last you for years to come.

You know... you're light-years ahead of most of your competition just by asking the question. It's smart to think about this kind of thing in college... I didn't consider this stuff until I was in my mid-thirties and I think I lost a ton of opportunities because of it.

On Michigan Avenue you can go to H&M or in the NorthBridge mall, where Nordstrom is, they have Forever 21. They are two shops that are economical. I live close to Chicago but prefer Woodfield - it's nicer. Perhaps though I have been to the Mag Mile too much.

Michigan avenue is very expensive. Water Tower Place as mostly "high end" stores.
At WoodfieldMall I guess you can check out Kohls or JC Penny. Cheaper stores. Look for Value City.
