Where (in Chicago) should I go for Sewing Lessons?

I want to learn how to sew. But first I need to learn about the sewing machine itself. Where's the best place to go? I've read about the Needle Shop and JoAnn's and Vogue just don't seem trendy enough (I don't know). Any suggestions? That would be great!

Also, you can call the community colleges about extended day classes. They may just offer what you desire in a class.
