Yes. Kirkland and Ellis, like other major law firms, hires primarily from the top tier law schools. A high GPA is probably not enough to make a difference to a firm like that. But if you are on the law review (and particularly if you are an editor), you would at least have a chance of getting your resume read.

The truth of the matter is that there are plenty of young lawyers coming out of Harvard, Stanford, the University of Chicago, Penn, Michigan, Yale, and other premier-level law schools. The best firms, like K & E, can pick among them. Indiana Law School produces plenty of good lawyers, but their reputation is going to carry more weight in Indianapolis than in Chicago, New York, or other major legal centers.

So, you need to have something else going for you. As I said, that could be law review, or it could be a professor who has a contact at K & E. If you want to work at firm like that (and frankly, it is not for everyone), you might want to consider trying to get a good federal clerkship. If you clerk for a Circuit Court judge, that will *greatly* increase your chances. Even if you clerk for a federal district judge, it will enhance your resume, and it also might lead to a second clerkship at the Circuit Court level.
