Can you make a good living by being a nanny?

I absolutely love kids and have been a babysitter for over 7 years and the moneys really good. Im going to school to become a teacher but lately have been thinking about becoming a full time nanny or child care provider. But I want to know that I'd be making more or the same as I would be if I were a teacher.

It probably won't pay the same as teaching, but the stress will be so much less that your health will be much better. It depends on how much time you spend with the family and whether you are a live-in or live-out nanny. If it is live-in, then you won't have to worry about rent and food. Often that would also mean less time for yourself, too.

Sure..as long as you're a nanny for some rich family..

Nannies do not make much because they have their room and board taken out of the pay. A teaching position has more responsibility than daycare, on the other hand, it also has set hours were daycare has long hours that once you set you need to enforce.

I would teach. At the end of the day, teaching gives you more flexibility and you have the opportunity to ADVANCE to better-paying, higher position. As a nanny, you will be pretty much stuck in the same pay bracket for the rest of your life.

As a live-out nanny in a big city, you could earn $300- $700 per week (approx 50 hours?). Do not be a live-in. It's incredibly stressful to live with your employers and you will have practically zero privacy. Also as a nanny, you cannot take days off like most jobs. You also have to deal with the parents. Some parents are great but some aren't and will count how many slices of bread you ate that day.

Good luck in whichever position you choose:)
