Chicago Apartment Listings?

Trying to find a Chicago apartment while not already in the city. Where should I look online?

I found a lot of potential places online, but I ended up finding an apartment by driving around and looking for 'for rent' signs. My cousin found her apartment in NYC through craigslist before she got to the city, so it is possible to do it that way. She got lucky and got a really nice place for a good price.

I wouldn't bother with apartment people or any of those kind of apartment finders. I used apartment people but they just showed me a bunch of dumps that weren't in the area I wanted to live in and cost the same as the place I have now, but they were really nasty places. I had more luck with craigslist and I'm a huge fan of the Chicago reader.

good luck. It can get frustrating. If you find a place that you really like, act quick and email the person about it. Apartments go fast on craigslist.

Also, you should research and figure out what neighborhood/ part of town you want to live in. It will narrow down your choices. Chicago is known for its neighborhoods. Also consider how close the CTA/ public transportation will be. Check train maps and bus routs.
