Do black widdows live in/around the chicago area?

According to my arachnid guide, the northern black widow is found normally in northeastern US and southeastern Canada.

The southern black widow is normally found from Florida to New York, and west to Texas, Oklahoma and parts of Arizona

The western widow is found in the western half of the United States, as well as in southwestern Canada and much of Mexico.

So yes, there is a species of Black Widdow near you.

not only do they live there, they originated from exactly that area and the population of black widows in chicago is three times as much as any other place in the united states

Very rare. If they are found it is usually because they arrived in shipping boxes, produce shipments, etc. I'd be more worried about the Brown Recluse... look this nasty guy up on the web and what happens to you when you get bit. These are still rare in Chicago area but are common from central IL and lower. I remember though a few years ago several people were bit by a reculse on a beach in the city. There was a fair near by and a larger container for their props, etc had an infestation... some got in to the sand and bit a couple people. Nasty stuff. Skin just melts away.
