Geologist working in the Arctic, can I write off some of my clothing? |
I'm a geologist and have been working in the Arctic. I am wondering if I can write off certain clothes that are required not only for the job but to survive the conditions. A lot of my gear has safety stripping and protective steel soles and toes. If u are self employed, you may deduct some of these clothing expenses that relate to your job and these clothings cannot be used for your personal daily clothing. You have two issues here. One is the working in the arctic issue. You can claim a Northern Living Allowance for living for a period above a certain lattitude. That has no bearing on your clothing, it's just to partially compensate for the extra costs of living up there. |
