Claiming Part-time Self Employment?

Is there an amount that you can make, 'on the side' without needing to file taxes? My boyfriend has a full-time job (which he pays taxes) and a small self employed job for extra money...does he need to file this even though he makes very little from it?

Once again, you can IGNORE the US answers.

All income is taxable, he needs to claim everything, even a small amount. If he ONLY had that income, he could probably get away with not paying, but he's still required to file. But since this income is added to his normal employment income, it's taxable at his highest rate. Thus, he will need to claim it and pay taxes on it.

"Very little" is rather vague.

I believe the rule is that if he makes more than $600, then the person he works for has to file a 1099.

But I could be mistaken.

yes he will have to cos its a joint income in one name..

It's better he does, bcos if the irs do get that he has a small self employed job, hey would charge him alot, and it might lead him to jail, bcos they do that alot.
