GST refund Selling car in Canada within one year? |
Can I claim a refund of GST for a car I plan to sell within one year of purchase? Consumers do not get GST back, no matter when they dispose of goods. That's the whole point of the tax, it is applied each time there is a transaction. So if a car were (for some reason) to be resold 10 times in a year (to consumers, not as business transactions), there would be GST collected each time. Most goods do not attract GST when re-sold. If you buy a car privately (i.e. not from a business) GST is not paid on the purchase. Individuals are not tax collectors for the federal government. When a car is bought privately you do have to pay PST when changing the ownership. no |
