The accountant we used, we are sure that she calculated my husband's return in correctly, please read details?

should we send the cheque in for what we owe or just send in the income tax return and wait until we hear back from the government as to what they think we owe...or do not owe??? we live in canada ...thank you very much!!!!

That's funny. I didn't know that in Canada we report to the IRS. I always thought it was CRA.

Send in what you owe according to your income tax return. If there is a discrepancy the IRS will review, audit and amend your return with what they think is the "correct" information" and there will be no penalties and you will still be in good standing with the IRS.

Send in what you owe per your prepared tax return, and wait for the notice of assessment from the CRA which either agrees with your determined tax liability, or asks for more. If more, you just pay the difference and this saves you the "extra" interest to be charged if you do not send in the cheque now. If less, the CRA will refund to you the difference.

You can either send it in as is, CRA will review it. Or you can get a tax prep place to double check it for you. H&R Block will do it for free if your return has been sent or charge $20 or so to check before it has been filed.
