Can I receive back-payments on missed GST cheques?

I moved a year ago and have not received a single GST cheque at my new address. I had my old mailing address labeled as "unvalid" by Canada Post. Most of my other mail has been coming through, except my GST cheques. How can I get these back?

The question that needs to be answered is were you entitled to GST last year?

It seems odd that all your mail go forwarded but not your GST rebate cheques.

Assuming you made less than $30k then yes you can get your back GST cheques. Contact CRA and explain the situation and they will help you.

My concern though would be that they might have been intercepted and cashed by someone else.

There is also a possibility that they will just be mailed out to you when you file this year with a correct address. If the first cheque was returned undeliverable then CRA would never have sent out the others and should send them now that you have a new address. Still better to contact them.

You should call CRA an update your address and let them know about the GST cheques. You'd better hope that nobody cashed them.

Did you do your taxes last year? If so how much money did you make? More than $30000? If so you are not entitled to GST.

CRA general inquiries line is 1-800-959-8281. You are supposed to notify them as soon as any of your contact info, dependent (child) info or marital status changes. They may tell you to call the GST Hotline, they will give you the number.
