When was sales tax introduced in Canada? |
When was sales tax introduced in Canada? In 1920 a sales tax was introduced to help the government re-gain funds to pay for the pensions of the soldiers returning from the war. It was similar to the concept of the current GST/HST. At some point in time, the sales tax morphed into a manufacturers tax (FST) and then back to a sales tax (GST/HST) in 1991. |
