How much is duty taxes on clothes?

I live in Montreal, a few hours drive from Burlington and am planning on going down thier with my freinds this weekend for shopping, the only thing is were staying thier for less than 24 hours. So i know i have no exemption on my goods. I'm planning on buying Goods such as Clothes, jackets and shoes. Does anyone know excatly what the percentage of duty tax is i have to pay on those sort of goods once i claim them at the border going home? Or if thiers a maxuim limit i'm allowed to bring back? (just clothes, no alchol or cigs, or etc) i want to know if its worth it to shop down thier and its not some ridiclously high tax.

Ok, In most cases the CRA will only collect the GST / HST and PST / RST. At their discretion they can collect Tariffs on clothing of approximately 18%

I've only ever paid the 18% Tariff when I've ordered online from LL Bean.

The full list of tariffs is here. The documents are a little convoluted to go through. They're written for a legal audience.

Whether or not the customs officer asks you to go to the office to pay duties is solely at their discretion. Often they have a rule of thumb. I've spent $100 in the US on a daytrip and not been charged.

You cannot bring alchol and smokes back duty free unless you've been out of the country for 48 hours.

Non tax related, but some of the prices differences on the items even justify buying them down there and paying full duty. My last trip there, I bought 2 pairs of pants at the Gap for $20 and $25. They sold in GAP Canada stores for $75 and $90

Duty tax is just regular tax on Candian items. Therefore it is 14%. You should be able to bring back $50 per person. Just know that customs and duty are craking down on people crossing the boarder. Trying to come back any time after 1p.m. may result in an 11 hour line-up, as everyone has been complaining about the wait time. Good luck.
