What percentage can I expect to get back of my child care expenses on my canadian income tax?

What percentage can I expect to get back of my child care expenses on my canadian income tax?

Child care is actually a deduction, so if you actually paid tax up front (at source or by installment), you would get back an amount equivalent to your marginal tax rate, if you didn't have any other additional income that did not have any tax withheld.

Bottom line: it reduces the amount you pay.

There's a process on the T778 form that determines how much of your child care expenses are tax deductable.

As a general rule, its 15% of your expenses are available to you as a non-refundable tax credit. Just because you spent the money you may not necessarily get the full credit.

Again it will depend on where you live in Canada. The child care expenses reduce your taxes payable. In Quebec however you would be entitled to a refunable provincial tax credit of up to 26% of the expenses in addition to the federal credits. the 26% gets reduced as income increases.
