Canadian Tax Laws?

Ok, here is the problem: I left my spouse in December of 2006. When I filed my taxes, I didn't claim him (he has $0 in income) but I claimed our kids (who live with me). Now he is trying to tell me he needs my total taxable income amount to put on his tax return. We've always filed separate returns, and I paid someone to do my return. I haven't given it to him yet because it seems like the only reason he'd need it would be to go after me for spousal support. Does he really need it for his return? I know if he's filing now, he's really late but that's his problem, I just want to know if he needs my income amount for a legitimate tax reason.

If you were seperated in December, then he does not need your information. He does need to complete his return with the same date for Change of Marital Status which you used. If he files as still married while you filed as seperated then the Canada Revenue Agency will investigate.

The GST Rebate program provides rebates for GST paid in the year, based on income. If an individual has no income they sill receive the rebate, while those with higher incomes receive either a reduced rate or nothing at all. Source(s): CGA in practice

When you filled out your tax form,it does ask, married, separated etc.,as of December 2006.He needs to fill out his own tax form and put the same info, but make sure he puts in the date as of December 2006 what his marital status was.He is still entitled to GST,that's why he needs your info...You no doubt can have this verified by Taxation Canada...In order fo him to get his GST during 2007..
Went through the same thing in 2005
