Income tax help? |
my dad retired at 64 he is now 70.he is on a pension and my mom does not work and no income but yet the government has been taxing the crap out of a measly pension and now he owes ten grand!!something isnt right and revenue canada is giving me the runaround can anyone who has knowledge of this type of matter help them please p.s they do not own a home they rent and pay like the rest of us they get no assistance whatsoever CRA can't give you any information unless you're on your Dad's account as an authorized rep. You'd have to actually look at the assessment notices, reassessment notices (if any), his income sliips, and his tax return to find out if things were done correctly. Sometimes pensions don't withhold enough tax at source. If that is the case, he should contact his pension office and fill out the form to increase the amount withheld. Is it possible he cashed in an RRSP at some point? They don't take off very much for RRSPs, either. Did he claim your mother on his return? Did they miss any deductions (charitable donations, medical)? |
