If I did not earn any money do I still have to file income tax forms? |
If I did not earn any money do I still have to file income tax forms? You file taxes if you have "earned income" for the year. Earned income would be money earned. Since you "did not earn any money," there is no requirement for you to file income tax forms (no income to report). No, there is no income to tax. Which defeats the purpose of income tax. No, but you can't fool Uncle Sam if you really did make money. There are records of that money somewhere, and Uncle will find them -- and then find you -- and fine you. you should, if you are over 18 you get tax return even if you didnt work. Also if you are a student you can claim tuition and get returns (in canada you can even claim your books). I got about 1000 bucks on year and never worked an hour. cheers If you live in the united states and you have a dependant, you can file taxes wether you worked or not and get the earned income credit that is available to people with children. If you don't owe any taxes, you wouldn't unless need to unless CRA sends you a Demand to File, or if your return is needed to prove entitlement to a benefit such as CCTB. See the link below. If you are eligible for the GSTC credit or Child Tax Benefit, you have to file even if you did not have any income in order to receive these credits. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/e/pub/tg/5000-g... |
