If i buy something from Ebay and they ship it to me from US, do I have to pay the taxes for Vancouver, Canada? You will have to pay the taxes and duties when it comes across the border. Often you'll get invoiced by Customs for it when it arrives, and pay for it at the post office. Sometimes they'll use a broker, and then you'll pay the broker fee, and any duties and taxes. All applicable taxes will be assessed before you get it. Having them put "gift" on it won't work, either; there are limits to the amount of the gift, and Customs has to be convinced it is a real gift. Only if the seller list that taxes are due if you are in that particular area. E-Bay Business You would have to pay the duties (equivalent to the GST and PST) if it is more than 20$ (60$ if the seller marks it as a "gift" on the custom form). Occasionally on eBay you do have to pay GST and PST but only if you were buying from a seller who remitted the tax money to the government and shows his GST registered business number before you pay. Never pay PST to the seller if he is not from your province and never pay GST unless that number is in the listing and the seller is from Canada :) |
